High Resolution Viscosity Measurement by Thermal Noise Detection

    Get PDF
An interferometric method is implemented in order to accurately assess the thermal fluctuations of a micro-cantilever sensor in liquid environments. The power spectrum density (PSD) of thermal fluctuations together with Sader's model of the cantilever allow for the indirect measurement of the liquid viscosity with good accuracy. The good quality of the deflection signal and the characteristic low noise of the instrument allow for the detection and corrections of drawbacks due to both the cantilever shape irregularities and the uncertainties on the position of the laser spot at the fluctuating end of the cantilever. Variation of viscosity below 0.03 mPa⋅\cdots was detected with the alternative to achieve measurements with a volume as low as 50 μ\muL.Comment: Sensors, MDPI, 201

THE GALLERY AS A SITE OF CONVERGENCE: THE ROLE OF CREATIVE ENVIRONMENTS AT POSTSECONDARY INSTITUTIONS

    Get PDF
Not enough research explores the role of creative environments at postsecondary institutions. In response, this qualitative research study focuses upon university galleries believing them to be exemplary artistic spaces within college campuses. Using a theoretical framework of place-consciousness, the researcher examined the functions of the Mary and Carter Thacher Gallery at the University of San Francisco (USF), paying close attention to the ways it engaged the academic community in terms of scholarship and instruction. Informed by grounded theory and phenomenology, this study interviewed five professors who integrated a gallery visit into their curriculum during the 2021-2022 academic year. Collecting these first-hand perspectives and experiences, the study arrived at a collective understanding of the gallery’s role at USF concerning its pedagogical, aesthetic, spatial and social dimensions

Social learning as a requirement for rural development: The connectivity of Salinas, San Luis Potosí

It is postulated that communities using social learning on rural planning will achieve sustainable development. The construction of roads integrates geographic spaces and it is a requirement for competitiveness and development of the communities. In Mexico, the construction of roads and its improvement use existing ways originated by the transfer of cattle or the pathways drawn over past times, without considering any municipal or local development plan. One looked for to define a reference frame on the importance of the ways, first in Mexico, the state of San Luis Potosí and the behavior of investment in the municipality of Salinas de Hidalgo, San Luis Potosí and to outline an intervention method that allows to design criteria for the decision in the road construction using like planning tool the social learning. Any alternative of road selection it is desirable that should include local actors weighting their needs along with the technical criteria as well under an IPMA competence baseline schem

Personalistic anthropological foundation for regular basic education in Peru

    Get PDF
